Guide of Cesenatico

Cesenatico is a popular seaside town situated on the Adriatic coast in Italy. The port is famous for fishing and transport.

A brief history of Cesenatico

The land on which Cesenatico was built used to be a lagoon and evidence of Bronze Age populations have been found in the area. Various populations lived in Cesenatico during the 5th to the 3rd century BC, merchants came from the Magna Graecia, Umbrians came down from the valleys to trade their products and the Celts came to the area to cultivate. During the medieval age, under the Byzantines, Cesenatico and the nearby town of Ravenna experienced a period of great splendour. In 1302 a fortress was built on the coast, along with the port.

Places to visit in Cesenatico

The port-canal is one of the most interesting sights in Cesenatico, as it was designed by Leonardo da Vinci in 1502 to connect Cesena to Cesenatico. There are many beautiful boats to see here along with the Maritime Museum, which is decorated beautifully at Christmas. Another interesting piece of architectural work is the skyscraper that overlooks the water, it was built in the 1950s as an iconic piece of design for the town.

Beaches around Cesenatico

The city is full of establishments that cater to your every need on the beach, for example, Bagno Romeo on Spiaggia Levante is a great place for families to spend the day. There is also the 4 Winds swimming pool right next to the beach for those who don't like to get too sandy! Whilst there are lots of private beach establishments along this golden stretch of sand, only a small section is a free beach.
