Gythio is a resort in the south of the Peloponnese, on the peninsula of Lakonia. Gythio is renowned for its beautiful beaches which are also very popular with turtles who come here to lay their eggs. Gythio is easily accessible from Athens and is also located near Sparta and Mystras.

A boat has been abandoned for about 35 years the coast of Gythio under mysterious circumstances. Legend has it that it was a smuggling boat that tried to escape the coast guards, the crew left the ship, leaving behind a cargo of cigarettes.
Gythio seafront is divided into different parts, the central part is for port activities and is full of cafes, restaurants, shops and nightclubs. Another part of the promenade full of cafes is home to the archaeological museum and ancient theatre, dating back to the first century. Do not miss the Diros Caves which are very beautiful to visit on board small boats.
