St. Barth for a day: excursion from St. Maarten
With its white sand and crystal-clear waters surrounded by majestic green hills sloping into the sea, St. Bart’s is a pearl of the Caribbean. But did you know the island is only 45 minutes away from St Maartens?
The island is only 21 square kilometers, but it is a triumph of luxury and nature and, unsurprisingly, a top destination for the rich and famous.
Plan your visit to St. Barth and be seduced by the high-fashion boutiques, excellent restaurants, and stunning beaches.
Here are NetFerry’s four tips for a one-day excursion to St. Barth.
1. Get there by ferry 2. Walk around the capital 3. Visit (at least one of) these three beaches 4. Diving among the coral reefs or go hiking in nature 5. Book your excursion to paradise now1. Get there by ferry
The ferry is the cheapest, quickest, and most comfortable way to reach the island, especially for a day trip. Depart from Philipsburg Port, St. Maarten, at 9:45 am; you will arrive in Gustavia, the island’s main town, at 10:30 am. This will leave you approximately 8 hours to enjoy St. Barth's beautiful landscapes, secluded beaches, and balmy climate. The return ferry back to St. Maarten leaves at 6:45 pm.
2. Walk around the capital
Arriving at the port, you will immediately notice the mega-yachts and the characteristic red roofs of Gustavia, evoking a contrast between European architecture and its tropical surroundings. Stroll through its charming streets and take in the gorgeous views. Go on a shopping spree or just some window shopping along the Rue de la République and the surrounding area, then stop for a delicious meal with flavors from across the world.
3. Visit (at least one of) these three beaches
You absolutely must include three beaches in your itinerary: Shell Beach, the closest to the capital: it is a beautiful expanse of shells surrounded by rocks. Secondly, Gouverneur Beach, which is natural and wild with ever-turquoise water. Finally, Saline Beach, the most well-known and largest bay on the island, and a nudist spot!
4. Diving among the coral reefs or go hiking in nature
If you are looking for an unforgettable experience in St. Barth, we recommend scuba diving. Many local businesses offer the opportunity to safely explore the beautiful corals and colorful marine life.
If, on the other hand, you are looking for a different but equally unforgettable experience, try trekking to the Grand Fond. A beautiful trail along the rugged coastline leads you to some natural rock pools that the locals call the “Washing Machine”. They are located on the island's southeastern shore, where diving is not recommended, but it’s worth a hike on foot!
