Saranda lies on Albania’s southern coast and is a land of wonders, with enchanting beaches, crystal clear waters and fragrant olive groves. Saranda was known as Porto Edda in the 1940s, (controversially) in honour of Edda Ciano Mussolini, Mussolini's wife! Saranda has become an increasingly popular tourist destination, much loved by many European and especially Italian, tourists. If you are willing to take it easy and enjoy the boat trip over to Albania, then there are regular ferries from Brindisi to Saranda. One company serves all routes with a weekly ferry, the journey takes about 9 hours. These ferries can also carry vehicles, so you can travel safely with your vehicle in tow and get around easily once you disembark. Summer 2020 will see a new route from the Italian port of Bari, direct to Saranda and the journey time is approximately 11 hours.

If you can't travel on the days set by the shipping company, NetFerry recommends an alternative ferry route to reach the beautiful Saranda. There are other ferries departing Italian ports of Venice, Ancona, Bari or Brindisi to Igoumenitsa in Greece, this port city is not far from the Albanian border. Once you arrive at the port, if you are travelling with a vehicle in tow, head towards Saranda overland, it is less than 70 kilometres along the SH97. But ensure that your vehicle is properly insured to travel in Albania!

Another, alternative ferry route, is to depart from Italy and head for the Greek island of Corfu. The connections available in June from Ancona, Bari and Brindisi, during the day or overnight. Once you arrive in Corfu there are ships that connect with nearby Saranda and the journey time is approximately 90 minutes.
